Published Date:2017-7-27 Hit:366

The Commission wants your views on the inception impact assessment on the revision of vehicle safety rules in the General Safety Regulation and Pedestrian Safety Regulation.

The Commission is preparing a revision of both the General Safety Regulation and thePedestrian Safety Regulation. The aims are to:

  • make new vehicle safety requirements mandatory
  •  address safety gaps in the current legislation
  •  improve upon the shortage of in depth accident data on causes of accidents and effectiveness of specific safety measures
  •  promote increasing automation in vehicles as well as improve their efficiency

Recent analyses show a stagnation of progress in road casualty reduction, important technological vehicle safety progress, as well as clear calls from numerous stakeholders to take action. Therefore, an inception impact assessment was launched.

The inception impact assessment describes the scope, purpose and timing of the planned measures.
