Copernicus Sentinel satellites confirm the breaking of Antarcticas ice shelf
Published Date:2017-7-14 Hit:349

Copernicus, the EU's earth observation and monitoring programme, has confirmed today the breaking of the trillion tonne Larsen-C ice shelf in Antarctica, creating one of the largest icebergs on record.

Copernicus plays a major role in the monitoring of remote, inaccessible regions of the world, particularly with its Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission.

Copernicus data and information related to the crack in the ice shelf will be further analysed and taken into account by the Copernicus Climate Change and Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Services.

Copernicus is looking at our planet and its environment for the benefit of all European citizens. Thanks to a variety of technologies, from satellites in space to measurement systems on the ground, in the sea and in the air, Copernicus delivers operational data and information services openly and freely in a wide range of application areas.
